Wallops expansion good news

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors, in a wise move, has authorised certain actions that are expected to lead to development of the first phase of Wallops Research Park by 2014, including applying for a $4 million grant from the Virginia Transportation Partnership Opportunity Fund to build a taxiway connecting the research park to NASA runways. The board also stated its intent to spend an equal amount on infrastructure - roads and utilities - to help ensure the research park's success.

With the stroke of a pen, the long-anticipated Wallops Research Park -- designed to bring technology-based jobs and businesses to the area -- became a reality this week.

Accomack County Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Mallette, on behalf of the county, signed the agreement legally forming the park. The documents were previously signed by officials from the other two park partners -- NASA Wallops Flight Facility and the Marine Science Consortium.
