Newly-discovered remains redraw path of Great Wall

Archaeologists have discovered ruins of the Great Wall along the border of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Gansu Province, dispelling a common belief that there were no sections of the wall in this area.

  China opens new sections of the Great Wall

Beijing has announced that it will open two new parts of the Great Wall of China to meet high tourist demand.
City officials told the state news agency Xinhua that the four parts of the wall currently open to the public are overcrowded on weekends and holidays.

Experts have found many Great Wall remains in the territory of Qinghai Province in northwest China after more than two years' field investigation.
The discoveries included a 480-meter-long wall section, 51 beacon towers and 158 pass towers, according to Ren Xiaoyan, a researcher with Qinghai's Archaeological Institute.

The Great Wall of China is even greater than previously thought, according to the first detailed survey to establish the length of the ancient barricade.
A two-year government mapping study found that the wall spans 8,850km  - until now, the length was commonly put at about 5,000km.
