The blastoff of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 (KSLV-1) has been postponed six times since October 2006. This year alone it has been delayed three times. Now, the authorities have set the launch date for Aug. 19. As the nation failed to meet the previous schedule set for July 30 and Aug. 11, suspicions abound that there might arise serious problems with the nation's partnership with Russia to build the KSLV-1.

Rocket Launch Delayed Again
It looks like South Korea will need more time to get its space ambitions off the ground. The country was expecting its first launch into space next week, but the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said Tuesday that technical issues have forced another delay.

First space rocket launch may be postponed
Korean government said Tuesday it may have to again postpone the launch of its first space rocket because further examination of a critical combustion test conducted last week is needed, according to Yonhap News.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said that while Russia successfully completed the "hot fire test" last Thursday, some "technical issues" still have to be clarified, requiring more time.

South Korea's first satellite-carrying rocket is being assembled for its launch from the Naro Space Centre on Aug. 11, a government official said Sunday.
The official from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said work has been underway for two days to assemble the main booster rocket, made in Russia, and the second stage of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 (KSLV-1).

The 100 kilogram low earth orbit communications satellite will be launched from the Naro Space Centre in Goheung.

South Korea postpones first rocket launch
South Korea has again postponed the launch of its first space rocket due to technical reasons, a spokesman for the Korea Aerospace Research Institute said on Friday.
Russian counterparts building the first stage of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 had called for more time for testing, said spokesman Kim Hong-Gab.
The launch date was previously set for on or around July 30, depending on the weather.

Researchers are putting the final touches on the launch of Korea's first space rocket scheduled for July 30.
Naro, or Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1, will carry a domestically-built experimental satellite into a low earth orbit.
It will be fired at the Naro Space Centre, the country's first space launch site, between 4:40 p.m. and 6:40 p.m., weather permitting.

South Korea plans to launch its own satellite from the Naro Space Centre in Gohueng on the 20th July, 2009.

"It will mark the first time that South Korea will launch a satellite from its own territory, using its own launch vehicle" - Park Jeong-Joo, director of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute.

The launch vehicle, which was developed for $388 million with Russian officials, would carry the 220-pound satellite into low earth orbit.
