Surprising to many, perhaps, is the fact southwestern Pennsylvania has earthquakes. Yes, temblors. The good news is, they aren't severe enough to break dishes.
This earthquake revelation comes thanks to a highly sensitive seismograph the University of Pittsburgh acquired through the state and that is now operating in the abandoned clock room of the Allegheny Observatory in Riverview Park, North Side.

Pitt's Allegheny Observatory Open House Set for Sept. 25, Tickets Are Available Aug. 3
Explore the heavens and a historic scientific landmark during the Sept. 25 open house at the University of Pittsburgh's Allegheny Observatory. The free open house is from 7 to 10 p.m. with groups entering every half-hour; reservations are required and tickets are available beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 3.

Daniel Handley is determined to prevent Allegheny Observatory from being forgotten.
So he's making a documentary film about the North Side stargazing center where astronomers of yore discovered that Venus is shrouded with clouds and present-day scientists search for clues to planets outside Earth's solar system.
