The world's first international bilateral cooperation within the scope of China's Shenzhou programme A very special space breakthrough is approaching; on 31 October at 23:00 CET (1 November at 06:00 local time) the Chinese spacecraft Shenzhou-8 will be launched on board a Long March rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Inner Mongolia. On board will be the SIMBOX (Science in Microgravity Box) experimental facility containing 17 experiments from the fields of biology and medicine, which will be conducted by German researchers together with their Chinese colleagues. China is planning to launch an unmanned Shenzhou-8 spacecraft in early November at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The spacecraft is expected to perform China's first space docking with Tiangong-1, or Heavenly Palace-1, a space lab module carried into space at the end of September from the same launch center in northwest China's desert area. Besides the Jiuquan Launch Center, China has three other space launch centers, two of which have been put into use while the third one is still under construction. Read more
China plans to launch its third manned space mission in October during which the country's astronauts are to undertake their first ever space walk, the state media reported today. Three astronauts aboard the spacecraft Shenzhou VIII are expected to attempt Chinas first space walk during the upcoming mission.
