Welsh earthquake could be result of historic ice sheet melt

The Welsh earthquake was probably caused by weak plate tectonic forces and slow movement of the earths crust following the melting of ice sheets thousands of years ago.
The earthquake, centred around the Lleyn Peninsula, had a 3.8 magnitude tremor and struck at 4.15am today the British Geological Survey (BGS) confirmed.

Small earthquake felt in Cumbria

A small earthquake has hit Cumbria, scientists have confirmed.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) said the 2.1-magnitude quake struck in Patterdale at 21:37 GMT on Wednesday.

Earthquake tremors felt in Shropshire

The small tremors were felt near Ludlow at about 13:16 BST. Nobody is thought to have been injured.
The British Geological Society said the earthquake a magnitude of 2.5 and occurred at a depth of 14km.

An earthquake has hit the Bodmin area of Cornwall overnight.
According to reports from the British Geological Society, the 2.2-magnitude tremor hit at 02:40 GMT and lasted for a few seconds.
The quake could have been felt as far as St Austell, Liskeard and Padstow, but there were no reports of damage.

Blackpool Shale Gas drilling suspended after quake

Shale gas test drilling in Lancashire has been suspended following an earthquake on the Fylde coast.
A spokeswoman for Cuadrilla, the company carrying out the tests, said drilling was suspended as a precaution after Friday's 1.5 magnitude quake.

Expert comment on the earthquake in North Yorkshire

Following the earthquake which struck north-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, England, a Durham University expert has commented on recent seismic activity in northern England.
In December, an earthquake was also felt in locations across Cumbria, Lancashire, south-west Scotland, Yorkshire, Northumberland and the Isle of Man.

An earth tremor has struck the north west of England.
The British Geological Survey confirmed there had been an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude at 1120 BST on Tuesday.
It centred on Ulverston in Cumbria and was felt around Barrow, Kendal, Windermere, Fleetwood and the North Lancaster area

Update: According to the British Geological Survey (BGS), the epicentre of the 5.3 magnitude quake was near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.
