Zephyr solar plane flies 7 days non-stop

The UK-built Zephyr solar-powered plane has smashed the endurance record for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
The craft took off from the US Army's Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona at 1440 BST (0640 local time) last Friday and is still in the air.

A UK unmanned solar-powered plane will attempt to set a remarkable new endurance record in the coming days.
The Zephyr vehicle will launch from a military range in the US and try to fly non-stop, day and night, for two weeks.
Developed by the British defence and research company QinetiQ, the project has already flown continuous missions up to 83 hours.

Solar-powered plane makes successful maiden flight

At the pace of a fast bicycle, a solar-powered plane took to the skies for its maiden flight, passing an important test on the way to a historic voyage around the world, a journey that would not use a drop of fuel.
The Solar Impulse lifted off from a military airport yesterday at a speed no faster than 45 kph after briefly accelerating down the runway.

The prototype of a solar-powered plane destined for a record round-the-world journey has made its first trip across a runway.
On Thursday, the plane covered at least 2km at speeds of up to five knots on the landing strip in Switzerland.
