China has asked space agencies across the world including the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for help in obtaining quake-related satellite data, for aiding relief operations in the country.
China's disaster relief authority has sought domestic and international help in getting quake-related data collected by satellites, the state media reported.

Leading earthquake expert today said that although the location of Mondays earthquake was not surprising, it would be difficult to predict when another quake, like the one which hit China's Sichuan province, will happen again.
Dr Alexander Densmore, of the Institute of Hazard and Risk Research at Durham University, has studied the Beichuan fault which was probably responsible for Mondays quake.

U.S. intelligence analysts are examining spy satellite images of China's Sichuan province, where a powerful earthquake is believed to have killed 3,000 to 5,000 people, a defence official said on Monday.

A powerful earthquake has killed at least 8,500 people in China's south-western Sichuan province, up to 5,000 of them in just one county.
Many more have been killed and injured in other parts of the country after the 7.8-magnitude quake struck at 14:28 local time (06:28 GMT).

"The government in Aba prefecture of Sichuan province said buildings had collapsed and many were cracked. Mountain roads had been damaged.
The earthquake was felt as far away as Vietnam and Thailand, startling office workers in high-rise buildings. There were no reports of damage. In Beijing, office workers rushed in panic out of towers in the capitals financial district. "

Yunnan Quake

Two people are reported dead and 70 injured after an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit the south-western Chinese province on Yunnan on Sunday.
The epicentre was in the city of Pu'er, and thousands are now being evacuated from the region, which is near the border with Laos and Burma.
