A pico satellite, tiny satellite weighing around one kilogram, developed by Zhejiang University, was also carried on "Yaogan II", for micro-electronics research. The launch represents the 99th flight of China's Long March series of rockets.
China has successfully launched the Yaogan-2 remote sensing satellite atop a Long March CZ-2D Chang Zheng-2D (CZ2D-8) rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre at 08:12 UT, 25th May 2007. The rocket placed the spacecraft identified as Remote Sensing Satellite No. 2 or Yaogan 2, into a sun-synchronous orbit. The spacecraft, which weighs 2,700 kilograms, will be used for scientific and land resources applications, according to official Chinese media reports. This was the 100th successful launch for China.
