Poland's 'Nazi gold train' find: Myth and reality

Now two men, a Pole and a German, have hired a lawyer and informed the local authorities in the town of Walbrzych, near Ksiaz Castle, that they have located a train in an underground tunnel that may in fact be mined.
The men are requesting 10% of the value of the discovery.
The intriguing aspect is that the Germans did build a complex system of tunnels in the area.

Nazi gold train 'found in Poland'

Two people in Poland say they may have found a Nazi train rumoured to be full of gold, gems and guns that disappeared in World War Two, Polish media say.
The train is believed to have gone missing near what is now the Polish city of Wroclaw as Soviet forces approached in 1945.

Denmark: Bronze Age gold spirals unearthed in field

Archaeologists are mystified by nearly 2,000 tiny golden spirals dug up in a field in eastern Denmark. The coils, made from thin filaments about 3cm (1in) long, date from between 900BC and 700BC, according to Flemming Kaul of the National Museum in Copenhagen. But he and his colleagues aren't quite sure what they have found.

Israeli divers chance upon 'priceless' treasure on seabed

Scuba divers have inadvertently discovered the largest trove of gold coins ever found off Israel's Mediterranean coast.
About 2,000 pieces dating back more than 1,000 years were spotted on the seabed by members of a diving club, the Israeli Antiquities Authority said.

Spain reveals shipwreck treasure

Spanish authorities have revealed some of the treasures from a ship that sank more than 200 years ago.
The Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes galleon sank off Portugal's coast near the straits of Gibraltar in 1804 with more than 500,000 silver coins.
Spain won a five-year legal dispute to claim ownership for the treasures found by a US firm.

 Roman and Celtic coin hoard worth up to £10m found in Jersey

One of Europe's largest hoards of Iron Age coins has been unearthed in Jersey and could be worth up to £10m, according to an expert.
The Roman and Celtic coins, which date from the 1st Century BC, were found by two metal detector enthusiasts.

Spanish treasure lands after 200 years

Coins worth nearly half a billion dollars finally arrived in Spain on Saturday after lying in a sunken warship for more than 200 years and following a five-year legal battle between the Spanish government and a salvage company.
The Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes, a 49-gun navy frigate, set sail from the coast of Peru - then a colony of Spain - with coins to help replenish the Spanish treasury's coffers.
In 1804, British warships attacked as the frigate was approaching the Spanish port of Cadiz and the ship went down, with 249 killed, a Spanish government website said.

Bulgarian stumbles across ancient treasure

A jobless Bulgarian man scraping a living by hunting for scrap metal has uncovered a haul of Bronze Age treasure worth 1.5 million euros, about $2 million.
The 42-year-old discovered the trove of jewellery, coins and tools potentially dating back 4,000 years among the roots of a tree in the northern town of Svichtov.

Scottish treasure trove revealed

A hoard of gold Iron Age torcs found near Stirling is among the highlights of the sixth annual Scottish Treasure Trove report.
The torcs - which earned the finder a reward of £462,000 - were found in 2009 but reported to the Queen's and Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer last year.
Other "outstanding" finds were a gold button unearthed in Perth and Kinross and a Papal Bulla found in Fife.
