International Astrology Day (most often observed on either March 20 or March 21) is an annual observance/holiday celebrated by astrologers and astrology enthusiasts. It is seen by astrologers as the beginning (first day) of the astrological year. It is the first full day of the astrological sign of Aries and thus marks the beginning of the tropical Zodiac.

Scorpio to Lose Status as Zodiac Sign

The biggest buzz coming out of the 218th Annual Meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Boston on Monday, centred around a plan to remove the constellation Scorpio from the Zodiac and replace it with the constellation Ophiuchus.
What precipitated this controversial shift in policy is the fact that the Sun actually travels through thirteen constellations as seen from the Earth on its annual trip around our nearest star. These are the twelve traditional zodiac constellations and Ophiuchus

News of a 13th zodiac sign may be better viewed as an astronomer's personal suggestion rather than an official change made by an internationally recognised astronomical organisation.
Astronomer Parke Kunkle of the Minnesota Planetarium Society has promoted the new sign, named Ophiuchus.
But Korea Astronomy & Space Science Institute press relations manager Sul Ah-chim said on Monday that the sign had not yet been made official.

How Astrology Is Like Racism

The fact that many sun sign horoscopes are based on badly outdated information is troubling to many people, but what may be even more disturbing is astrologys close similarity to racism.
The basic premise of astrology is that people who were born at certain times and places share specific, distinguishing personality characteristics. Libras like myself, for example, are said to be diplomatic, refined, idealistic, and sociable. Cancers are emotional, sensitive, and domestic. Those born under the Taurus sign are stubborn, analytical and methodical -- and so on.

Astronomers suggest an overhaul in the process of defining horoscope on the basis of one's birth date as the earth's position vis-a-vis the sun and other stars has changed since the astrological signs were determined over 2,000 years ago.
Apart from the existing 12 astrological signs, the experts include a 13th sign Ophiuchus, a formation which the ancient Babylonians discarded because they wanted 12 star signs.

Unknown to most believers of star signs - which would mean almost all of us - there is a growing group of astrologers and rationalists who swear that we have been following the wrong zodiac and that in its present form it is all wrong. The theory is that when it was developed by the Babylonians in 450 BCE they missed out on a crucial bit of information which became apparent to mankind only later with further advances in science. But the signs were never recalibrated.

Ed ~ It should be noted again that there is no scientific evidence that Astrology works or that planetary positions can influence, or predict, future human events.

Your Astrological Sign May Not Be What You Think It Is
Consider this: your zodiac sign corresponds to the position of the sun relative to constellations as they appeared over 2200 years ago!
The science behind astrology may have its roots in astronomy but dont confuse these two disciplines. Astronomy can explain the position of the stars in the sky but its up to you to determine what, if anything, their alignment signifies.

The universe is not governed by a blind force, but by love, and people are not slaves to the cosmos, Benedict XVI says.
The Pope affirmed this Tuesday during a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica that celebrated the magi of the east, who arrived to Bethlehem following a star. During his homily he spoke of Galileo's idea that love governs the cosmos.
