A magnitude 15.2 supernova, 2007bj, was discovered on the 18th April 2007, by Jack Newton, R. Gorelli and Tim Puckett in the elliptical galaxy NGC 6172 in the constellation Ophiuchus.
The supernova is located 3".9 east and 2".3 north of the centre of the galaxy.

Position(2000): R.A. = 16h22m10s.59, Dec. = -01°30'51".4

As yet the type is unknown
