NGC 5566 (also Arp 286, IRAS 14178+0409, MCG 1-37-2, UGC 9175 and PGC 51233) is a magnitude +11.1 barred spiral galaxy located 65 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy is gravitationally interacting with the neighbouring galaxies NGC 5560 and NGC 5569: the trio of galaxies are listed as Arp 286 in the Atlas of peculiar galaxies by Halton Arp.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 30th April 1786.
