Yuri's Night is an international celebration held on April 12 every year to commemorate space exploration milestones. The event is named for the first human to launch into space, Yuri Gagarin, who flew the Vostok 1 spaceship on April 12, 1961.

'Yuri's Night' to celebrate space exploration

A celebration of spaceflight planned for next week in Havre will feature a curious blend of science and science fiction.
Scheduled for Tuesday at Montana State University Northern, the event is "Yuris Night," marking the 50th anniversary of the first human spaceflight - Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's 108-minute orbit of the Earth.

Not your average science-based party, Yuri's Night at NASA's Ames Research Centre boasts three music stages (two in aircraft hangars), a high-profile programme of speakers, an airshow and a 13-metre-high 1950s-sci-fi-style space rocket art installation.
The largest of all the global parties celebrating Yuri Gagarin's historical journey into space on 12 April 1961, and also the launch of NASA's shuttle programme exactly 20 years later, the event at NASA's Ames in Mountain View, California, spanned two whole days.
