Intelsat, Ltd., the worlds leading provider of fixed satellite services, today announced that it was selected as the successful bidder in the 29 October public auction for the ProtoStar 1 satellite with a $210 million, all cash offer. Upon conclusion of the transaction, the satellite will be re-named Intelsat 25 and will join Intelsats global fleet, serving with the companys other assets in the Atlantic Ocean region.

Europe's heavy-lift rocket, the Ariane-5 ECA, has put another two commercial telecommunications satellites in orbit.
The ProtoStar I spacecraft will deliver high-definition TV and broadband services across Asia.
The BADR-6 satellite has been put up to provide telecoms, multimedia and internet services to the Middle East and Africa.
Ariane lifted off from Kourou in French Guiana at 1847 local time (2147 GMT).

Final countdown underway for tonight's Ariane 5 launch

The Ariane 5 is ready for liftoff from the Spaceport's ELA-3 launch zone.

Arianespace has begun the final countdown for this evening's dual-payload Ariane 5 mission, which will mark the workhorse launcher's fourth flight of 2008.
This latest Ariane 5 mission will carry the ProtoStar I and BADR-6 telecommunications satellites.
