The cold wave has intensified across north India following snowfall and scattered rainfall in the upper reaches of Himalayas.
Temperatures have plummeted several degrees below normal in many northern states. The Kashmir Valley, which witnessed snowfall ranging between three and eight feet last week, received fresh snow.
The Met department says inclement weather was the result of western disturbances and cyclonic circulation over J&K.
