The interceptor missiles are part of Russia's missile defence system that was developed by a team under designer Grigory Kisunko and put on alert in central Russia.
"The launch came as part of a program aimed at prolonging the service life of interceptor missiles. Preliminary information indicates the main characteristics of the missile have been confirmed" - Alexei Kuznetsov, Space Forces' spokesman.
Russia carried out a successful missile test at the Sary-Shagan test site in Kazakhstan, at 08:00 UTC, 5th December. The A-135 missile interceptor defence system is currently deployed around Moscow.
