Rock structure puzzles historians
An out-of-place pile of rocks above Kannah Creek is no natural phenomenon, but that’s well short of saying exactly what it is. The pile, actually a structure of skilfully laid native stone, appears to have been constructed as a platform of sorts, said David Bailey, curator of history at the Museum of the West and director of the Western Investigations Team.
Investigators from the museum and Mesa State College looked last week for bits of metal along Kannah Creek on the south side of Grand Mesa in the same area that a chunk of copper later identified as a piece of a scabbard was found. The team determined the copper piece was from a Masonic sword.
