Sar Torbat is an ancient site in Rasht, Gilan province, dating back 3,500 years, which has been registered on National Heritage List, an archaeologist told IRNA's English paper, the Iran Daily.

Vali Jahani said that an ancient cemetery and a mausoleum are located at the historical site.
The mausoleum stretching back to the Timurid era (1465 AD) is where Seyyed Ali Kia and his daughter have been laid to rest.
According to the expert, the rectangular-form monument is an austere structure made of stone and a plaster of lime and ashes.
He added that the mausoleum includes six graves four of which are the resting place of members of Sadat Kiaei family. Verses of the Holy Qur'an have been carved on the gravestones.
Jahani noted that it is not clear to whom the other two graves belong, since their gravestones have been stolen by tomb raiders in recent years.

"However, one gravestone was retrieved from looters and is currently being kept in archaeology section of Rasht Museum" - Vali Jahani .

The expert cited local beliefs based on which the phrase 'Sar Torbat' means a mausoleum without roof. All graves are buried in the yard.
Jahani further noted that a historical site called Shahr-e Samam (used to belong to the Sadat Kiaei clan) is situated about a kilometer farther.
As per archaeological studies, a public bathhouse, a swimming pool, irrigation channels and ancient hills are located at the site.
He explained that the Sadat Kiaeis were a rich clan who owned several mansions in Paitakht, Sar Torbat, and Shahr-e Samam in Amlash and Roudsar's Eshkevarat.

"Although Shahr-e Samam goes back to the Timurid dynasty, the ancient site and its cemeteries have a history of 3,500 years" - Vali Jahani .

Jahani elaborated that the people who had settled in the area gradually started migrating to other places during the Qajarid era due to economic problems.
