A magnitude 15.2, Type Ia, supernova, 2006dy, was discovered on July 22nd, 2006, by Koichi Itagaki, in the spiral galaxy NGC 5587, in the constellation Bootes. It is located 10" east and 9" north of the centre of the galaxy.
