After nearly three years of work, members of the SPIRIT (Student Projects Involving Rocket Investigation Techniques) program successfully launched SPIRIT III at 8:39 a.m. Norwegian time, on July 1st, at the Andoya Rocket Range in Norway. Christened ESPRIT (Engineering/Scientific Projects for Research and International Teamwork), the SPIRIT III payload was designed and fabricated by Penn State students in collaboration with students at three Norwegian universities. The launch window was from June 27 through to July 6. All the onboard Experiments looked like they worked, and with more time the data will become more clear. 8 gigabytes of data were returned from the payload.
