A magnitude 14.5 supernova, 2006dd, was discovered on the 19th June, 2006, by Berto Monard, in the elliptical galaxy NGC 1316, in the constellation fornax . The supernova is located 0".3 west and 16" north of the nucleus

Position(2000) R.A. = 03h22m41s.62, Decl. = -37°12'13".0
As yet the Type is unknown.

NGC 1316, also known as Fornax A, is located some 53 million light years away toward the constellation Fornax, (z = 0.005871).
