On 2018 Apr 05, 01:40 UT, the 37.3 km diameter asteroid (396) Aeolia will occult the 10.9 mag star TYC 1341-00566-1 in the constellation Gemini for observers along a path across SE USA.
Asteroid 396 Aeolia (1894 BL) is a typical main belt asteroid, and the main member of the Aeolia asteroid family. It was discovered by French astronomer Auguste Charlois on 1 December 1894 in Nice, and was named after Aeolia, an ancient Greek region of Asia Minor. Aeolia orbits at an average distance of 2,741 AU from the Sun, and has an eccentricity of 0.1591. It has an orbital inclination of 2.55°, and takes 1658 days to complete an orbit around the Sun. The diameter of Aeolia was estimated at 34.1 km (from IRAS data), while its mass is estimated at 41.5 trillion tons with an average density of 2 gr/cm³. Aeolia rotates once every 12 hours. The average temperature on its surface is estimated at about -105 to -110 degrees Celsius.
