1I/Oumuamua (formally designated 1I/2017 U1; previously C/2017 U1 (PANSTARRS) and A/2017 U1) is the first known interstellar object to pass through the Solar System. It was discovered on a highly eccentric hyperbolic trajectory by Robert Weryk on 19 October 2017, 40 days after it passed its closest point to the Sun (perihelion).
