NGC 5516 (also ESO 221-34, AM 1412-475, PGC 50960) is a magnitude +12.0 elliptical/spiral galaxy located 188 million light-years away in the constellation Centaur.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 1st July 1834.
