NGC 2996 (also ESO 566-12, MCG -3-25-22 and PGC 28049) is a magnitude +12.7 lenticular galaxy located 403 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra.

The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 23rd March 1835.

The galaxy hosted Supernova 2017bos

Right ascension 09h  46m  30.2s, Declination -21° 34' 16"
