World's first quantum satellite to run official experiments

Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS), nicknamed Micius or Mozi in honour of a fifth century BC Chinese philosopher, lifted off from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center using a Long March-2D (Chang Zheng-2D) launch vehicle at 1:40 AM local time (17:40 UTC) August 16, 2016. The satellite is in a 500 km sun-synchronous orbit.
