NGC 7479 is also recognised as a Seyfert galaxy and a Liner undergoing starburst activity not only on the nucleus and the outer arms, but also across the bar of the galaxy, where most of the stars were formed in the last 100 million years

NGC 7479 (also Caldwell 44, UGC 12343 and PGC 70419) is a magnitude +11.6 barred spiral galaxy located 105 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 19th October 1784.

The galaxy hosted Supernovae SN 1990U and SN2009jf

Right ascension 23h 04m 56.6s, Declination +12° 19' 22"
