Typhoon Meranti lands in east China Typhoon Meranti made landfall in Xiang'an district of Xiamen City, east China's Fujian Province, at 3:05 a.m. Thursday, with gales up to 48 meters per second. The world's strongest typhoon so far this year has also beenmonitored as the strongest one hitting southern Fujian Provincesince the local meteorological records were kept in 1949. Super Typhoon Meranti has now become the strongest cyclone, hurricane or typhoon, of 2016. This huge storm, with a central pressure of 905 millibars, has sustained winds of 295km an hour (kph), and gusts of 360kph. This makes it the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane on the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale. Read more __________________
