Samples and thin sections of the meteorite were provided to the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Anthony Irving and Dr. Scott Kuehner have identified the meteorite as a Mars meteorite, and have also paired it with NWA 1068, another Mars meteorite recovered by a French team in April 2001. Since this meteorite is paired, the total number of Mars meteorite remains at 24.

Purchased 2001 November
Martian meteorite (basaltic shergottite)

G. and A. Hupé (xHupé) received a small sample of this meteorite in 2001 September and bought the rest from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco in 2001 November. The weight of the total material purchased is 118 g. The place of recovery is believed to be in Morocco.
