NGC 5436 (UGC 8971, MCG 2-36-25 and PGC 50104) is a magnitude +14.0 almost edge-on spiral galaxy located 311 million light-years away in the constellation Boötes.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Wilhelm Tempel using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/19 refracting telescope at the Arcetri Observatory on the 28th June 1883.
