Y Leonis (HIP 47178 and SAO 80927) is a magnitude +10.07 Delta Scuti variable binary star located 980 light-years away in the constellation Leo, about 2.5° east of Kappa Leonis ( Leonis).
Y Leonis is also a close eclipsing binary. During the eclipse the main component dims by 3.11 magnitudes. Its orbital period is 1.68610 days.
The main component is a 1.9 solar mass white star of spectral type A3 or A5V which contributes 89% of the luminosity of the system. The main component is 90% larger than the radius of the Sun. The main star is variable with a period of 0.696 hours. The nature of the secondary component is not well understood; various sources consider it a subgiant of spectral type K6IV-G9IV, containing 29% of the mass of te system - equivalent to 0.56 solar-masses with 2.2 solar radii.

Position (J2000): R.A. 09 36 51.80580 | Dec. +26° 13' 57.6426"
