NGC 1238 (also MCG -2-9-10 and PGC 11868) is a magnitude +13.3 elliptical galaxy located 228 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 40.6 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 1st November 1886.
