NGC 6303 (also MCG 12-16-17, UGC 10711 and PGC 59573) is a magnitude +15.4 elliptical galaxy located 558 million light-years away in the constellation of Draco.
Because of its low surface brightness (15.4 mag / arcsecē) it is a very difficult object to observe.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 40.6 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 14th October 1884.
The galaxy was rediscovered by Guillaume Bigourdan.
