NGC 1344 (also NGC 1340, ESO 418-5, MCG -5-9-5 and PGC 12923) is a magnitude +10.4 elliptical galaxy located 54 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire on the 9th October 1790.

The galaxy was rediscovered by John Herschel in November 1835 and relisted as NGC 1340.

Right Ascension 03h 28m 19.5s, Declination -31° 04' 05"
