NGC 271 (also IRAS 00481-0210, MCG 0-3-12, UGC 532 and PGC 2949) is a magnitude +12.0 barred spiral galaxy located 190 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Clayhall Farm House in Old Windsor on the 1st October 1785.
