NGC 317 is a magnitude +13.5 pair of galaxies located 243 and 250 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The galaxies were discovered by American astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 40.6 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 1st October 1885.
