NGC 1 (also IRAS 00047+2725, MCG 4-1-25, UGC 57 and PGC 564) is a magnitude +13.65 spiral galaxy located 211 ±14 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 30th September 1861.

At about 90,000 light-years in diameter, it is just a little smaller than our galaxy, the Milky Way. It is the first object listed in the New General Catalogue. Read more
