NGC 679 (also MCG 6-5-12, UGC 1283 and PGC 6711) is a magnitude +12.3 lenticular galaxy located 232 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire on the 13th September 1784.

Right Ascension 01h 49m 43.7s, Declination +35° 47' 10"
