Luna E-8-5 No.402 was an unmanned space mission of the Soviet Luna programme, also called Luna 15b
The mission of the Luna Ye-probes 8-5 was land on the lunar surface, collect samples of the lunar surface and return a capsule to Earth.
Luna E-8-5 No.402 was launched at 04:00:07 UTC on 14 June 1969 atop a Proton-K 8K78K carrier rocket with a Blok-D upper stage, flying from Site 81/24 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The upper stage failed to ignite, and consequently the spacecraft failed to achieve orbit.
The Soviets sent eight Luna Ye-8-5 probes models, two of which (Luna 16 and Luna 20) were successful and brought to Earth a total of 130 grams of lunar soil.
