Astronomers observe hypervelocity star with LAMSOST

A research team composed of astronomers from China and the United States has found a hypervelocity star traveling at 1.7 million kilometers per hour with the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMSOST).

Nearest Bright 'Hypervelocity Star' Found

A University of Utah-led team discovered a "hypervelocity star" that is the closest, second-brightest and among the largest of 20 found so far. Speeding at more than 1 million mph, the star may provide clues about the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way and the halo of mysterious "dark matter" surrounding the galaxy, astronomers say.

Nearest bright 'hypervelocity star' found

Researchers from the United States and China said Wednesday they have discovered the closest known "hypervelocity star" that is moving away from the center of the Milky Way at more than 1.6 million km per hour.
