NGC 4296 (also MCG 1-32-17, UGC 7409 and PGC 39943) is a magnitude +12.7 lenticular galaxy located 189 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 13th April 1784.
