NGC 3617 (also MCG -4-27-8, UGCA 231 and PGC 34513) is a magnitude +12.8 elliptical galaxy located 99 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at the Cape of Good Hope on the 22nd March 1836.
