NGC 4164 (also PGC 38877) is a magnitude +14.7 elliptical galaxy located 804 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Wilhelm Tempel using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) refractor at the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory on the 22nd March 1878.
