NGC 823 (also IC 1782, ESO 478-2, IRAS 02050-2540, MCG -4-6-5 and PGC 8093) is a magnitude +12.8 elliptical galaxy (E-S0), located 204 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax.
NGC 823 was discovered by John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire on the 14th October 1830.
