A 282 gram stone fell a few meters from a farm worker around 18:30 on a spring evening (date unknown). It was recovered the next day from the bottom of a small hole after water was poured over the stone, which was thought to be hot. The object was identified as a meteorite by a Sr. Rodriguez in Ovalle, who kept it. Classification and mineralogy (M. Grady, NHM): olivine, Fa24.2; pyroxene, Fs21.8; shock stage, S4; weathering grade, W1. Specimens: type specimen, 1 g, plus thin section, NHM; main mass, Sr. L. Arriagada, Ingeniero Quimico U.S.A.CH., La Verbena 4907, Nuņoa, Santiago, Chile.

The San Pedro de Quiles (L6) meteorite fell in Coquimbo, Chile, in spring 1956.
A total mass of 282 g was recovered.
