Solar eclipse of June 8, 1937	Permalink

In 1937, the United States Pacific Fleet attempted to locate Sarah Ann Island, intending to establish an observatory there to view the Solar eclipse of June 8, 1937, but was unsuccessful. The island, which was observed 15 years before, was nowhere to be found. Instead, observations were made on the nearby Canton and Enderbury Islands and Sarah Ann was quietly removed from Naval charts. Read more __________________

A total solar eclipse occurred on June 8, 1937. The path of totality crossed the pacific ocean starting in Micronesia, and ending at sunset in western South America. Read more Ed ~ This was the first total solar eclipse to exceed 7 minutes of totality in over 800 years __________________
