Laura Maria Caterina Bassi (29 November 1711 - 20 February 1778) was an Italian scientist, the first woman to officially teach at a university in Europe.
A 31 km crater on Venus honours her name, along with a high school (language, social sciences and music) and a city street in Bologna.
