Tanzanite Cutting Company Launches New Tanzanite Cut
A local Tanzanite cutting firm that specialises in cutting the finest 1% of Tanzanites mined has recently developed a new style of cut which they launched last week at a gala in Cape Town, South Africa. The cut combines the traditional portuguese faceting with an intricated combination of pavilion facets which serves to increase brilliance whilst also holding in the beautiful AAA colour the company is known for. Tanzanite is the blue/purple variety of the mineral zoisite (a calcium aluminium hydroxy silicate) which was discovered in the Mererani Hills of Northern Tanzania in 1967, near the city of Arusha and Mount Kilimanjaro. It is used as a gemstone. Tanzanite is noted for its remarkably strong trichroism, appearing alternately sapphire blue, violet and burgundy depending on crystal orientation. Read more
