Nicaragua San Cristobal volcano: Hundreds told to leave

Nicaraguan authorities have ordered the evacuation of several hundred people living near San Cristobal volcano.
Officials also declared an amber alert for five sq km around the volcano, which began spewing ash and gas on Tuesday.

Volcán San Cristóbal is the highest volcano in Nicaragua at 1,745 m. Located near to the northwest corner of the country, it forms a majestic backdrop to the city of Chichigalpa, Chinandega. It is also among the most active volcanos in Nicaragua, erupting frequently (if gently).
